Honoring Native American Heritage Month

Each November, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month. It's a time to honor the traditions, history, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples.

Here in Spokane, we live and work on the traditional homelands of the Spokane Tribe of Indians. Since time immemorial, the Spokane people have cared for and honored this land, its rivers, and natural resources. This region has long been a center of gathering, trade, and ceremony. A place where neighboring tribes came together in the spirit of connection and reciprocity.

As we grow our work in Eastern Washington, we are guided by that same spirit. We are committed to building relationships rooted in respect, humility, and collaboration with the Native communities who have called this place home for generations. Our partnership with the Spokane Public Schools Native Education Department reflects this commitment, helping us create culturally grounded opportunities for Indigenous youth. Through activities like Native Club, where youth connect with peers, share stories, and celebrate their heritage, we see how cultural identity strengthens confidence and belonging.

We recognize that cultural connection is an essential protective factor for children. It fosters resilience, pride, and a sense of purpose. We are honored to walk alongside our Indigenous youth and families as they continue to celebrate and carry forward their cultural traditions.

This month and every month, we express gratitude to the tribal elders, ancestors, and descendants who continue to care for this land and guide our community.
